Yoga Vidya Mandiram
Himalayan Roots
Overview
Located in the Tapovan area of Rishikesh, the world's yoga capital, Himalayan Yogis is a traditional school dedicated to the authentic practice of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga. Set against the backdrop of the sacred Ganges and the foothills of the Himalayas, this ashram offers a disciplined and profound immersion into the yogic lifestyle. Whether you are joining for a 7-day retreat or a full teacher training, you will follow a Sattvic (pure) lifestyle that includes morning chanting, dynamic asana practice, and deep meditation. This is not a spa retreat but a return to the source of yoga, where the focus is on the academic and spiritual rigor of the Indian tradition, supported by the ancient energy of the holy city.
Why We Chose This
We chose Himalayan Yogis because of its unwavering commitment to the traditional roots of yoga in a city that is increasingly commercialized. Unlike many of the newer schools in Rishikesh, Himalayan Yogis maintains a high degree of discipline and academic depth, making it ideal for those who want a serious and authentic study experience. The Sattvic food is prepared with great care, following ancient principles to support your practice. The Tapovan location offers a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than the central town while still being within walking distance of the Ganges. It is the perfect choice for the dedicated practitioner who wants to go beyond the physical and experience yoga as a complete lifestyle and philosophy.
