Overview

Nestled on the tranquil shores of Loch Venachar, Dhanakosa offers a sanctuary of peace in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The retreat center is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community and offers a range of meditation and yoga retreats throughout the year. The landscape is one of dramatic beauty-rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and the ever-shifting light on the water. Here, the focus is on simplicity, community, and the cultivation of mindfulness. Days are spent in a mix of guided practice, work periods, and free time to wander the lake-side paths. It is a place to breathe deeply and rediscover the quietude that exists within us all, supported by the rugged serenity of the Trossachs.

Why We Chose This

We chose Dhanakosa because of its exceptional integration of Buddhist practice with the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Their commitment to a 'dana' (donation) based model makes profound spiritual practice accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means, which we find truly inspiring. The location on Loch Venachar is spectacular, providing a natural sanctuary that facilitates a deep sense of calm and presence. The retreats are led with a gentle, inclusive approach that welcomes all experience levels. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a sincere, community-focused meditation experience in a landscape that encourages both expansion and grounding.
